The Work that Reconnects

  • EcoTrust 1711 10 Avenue Southwest Suite #100 Calgary, AB, T3C 0K1 Canada (map)

DESCRIPTION

"The Work that Reconnects" is an intensive framework created by eco-philosopher Joanna Macy. It intersects deep ecology, spirituality, and psychology.  This one-day retreat utilizes this framework in order to invite participants into a space where they can be more reflective and connect with alternate ways of being in the world. This retreat will engage individuals by examining the realities of living in this time in history while moving through four stages: gratitude, honouring our grief, seeing with new eyes, and going forth.

Facilitators:

Eileen Shaughnessy teaches courses in the Sustainability Studies Program at the University of New Mexico. Her courses focus on Environmental Justice, Sustainability, Feminism, Racial Justice and Nuclearism. Eileen is also a singer-song writer and multi-intstrumentalist for the musical group "Eileen and the In-Betweens." Her songs often reflect the complex material she teaches: feminism, racial justice, and concern for the earth. She is a frequent facilitator of "The Work that Reconnects."

Jodi Lammiman is an artist, facilitator, and spiritual director. She has facilitated retreats and workshops on topics like self-care, mindfulness, contemplation, peace and justice issues, and the Labyrinth to both youth and adults. Jodi was a part of the King's Fold Retreat Centre Resident Community for over three years, where she spent much of her time offering hospitality through cooking, facilitation and spiritual direction. As a facilitator, Jodi is passionate about creating safe spaces that allow people to explore the inner workings of their souls. She recently attended a ten day intensive with Joanna Macy on "The Work That Reconnects" and is excited to offer this retreat in Calgary.

The event will be held at Alberta Eco-Trust in Calgary, and has several outdoor portions.  Food will be provided.  A detailed schedule will be e-mailed to participants prior to the event.
